guinevak: Skeptical Cassian Andor ((sw) Cassian "are you shitting me" Andor)
So, let me see.

- Maarva Andor kidnaps a child out of misguided impulse, spends the rest of her life trying to mitigate the harm she caused him, is "toxic" and "a bad mother"
- Cinta Kaz survives the massacre of her family, efficiently kills Imperials who threaten her mission, does not have limitless patience for her rich white girlfriend's angst, is "emotionally distant" and "probably murders children"
- Bix Caleen gets caught in the backwash of her ex's problems, is tortured for weeks, is a "passive damsel" who was "just using" her fiance
- Dedra Meero is a literal fascist psychopath, tortures people on and off screen, is a "badass girlboss" who "can do things for herself"

Because fandom... is antiracist and not misogynist.

Have I got that right?
guinevak: it takes a lot of hate to put the sun down. (cockeyed optimist)
I love it when racists who couldn't construct an argument in good faith if it came with a diagram accuse me of being disingenuous.

Not my fault your dog whistles are deafening.
guinevak: ((wts) WELP)
- I swear to god if I never see the word "anti" again it will be too soon.

- It would also be real nice if we could evaluate people's statements on their own merits instead of doing an elaborate interpretive dance to remove all taint of Having Once Agreed With A Person Who, While Right, Was Not A Saint.

- Also if people would get as exercised about actualfax entrenched human racism as they do about computer programs which they themselves readily admit are not sentient.

- Monopolies are unhealthy whether profit is involved or not.

- Relatedly, SquidgeWorld is very easy to use and almost as easy to reskin into a color scheme other than snot.

- I love my cats but boy do I miss uninterrupted sleep.

- Also, day 35, still salty about Certain Companies cancelling and then vanishing my new favorite show because paying royalties is haaaaaarrrrrrd.
guinevak: Skeptical Cassian Andor ((sw) Cassian "are you shitting me" Andor)
Okay look.

- Bix does at one point imply that Cassian sleeps around, and he just rolls his eyes like 'you're not funny'.

- Maarva accuses him of it during their argument, and he reacts with impatience -- "oh come on. Please" -- but only lashes out at the mention of Bix.

- Bix indicates that she and Cassian dated at some point. Both of them seem bemused at the idea that they might do so again.

- He is briefly seen naked in a hotel suite with Windi, although in separate rooms. They have a brief conversation that's apparently about grocery shopping, which does not especially suggest a reckless one night stand.

- NONE of his other interactions with women are even remotely sexual. He responds politely but half-heartedly to the club hostess's flirting in ep 1. He doesn't react to Skeen warning him off Cinta, and when he tries his standard I-am-just-a-cute-boy-next-door bit on her, Vel gets aggressively jealous and he doesn't do it again with either of them.

- He does engage in some superficial Bro Banter in response to Timm's jealous probing, but what he actually says boils down to 'Bix doesn't need protecting from me, if you're feeling insecure you should talk to *her* about it'.

The fact that, at 26, he has been sexually active at all does not prove ANYTHING about his general habits or attitudes. The next person who implies, for good or ill, that Cassian is some kind of profligate womanizer I will EAT LIKE A HARD-BOILED EGG. DO NOT TEST ME.

Edit: seriously the thing with Windi is so damn CUTE and domestic? like there's absolutely nothing horny about that scene other than "those sure are two very pretty people lacking clothes". It's SO OBVIOUSLY about Cassian seeking out human sapient contact because he's had to cut off everyone he knows and cares about.

oh okay.

Do please tell me again how fascist sympathizers deserve to feel safe but black fans don't. It's been ages since I barfed on someone's shoes.

Ah yes. If the Armorer isn't an outright abusive parent, she must be a religious fanatic controlling her people through fear, and if she's not that, she must be a secret mole for the Empire. If she wasn't trying to brainwash Bo-Katan in episode four, then surely her support for her now is just a ruse, right?

What sinister agenda are we going to dream up if this one doesn't pan out? She was a Sith all along?

I mean, it can't possibly be that a woman in a position of authority is just a woman in a position of authority doing her job as best she can. That'd just be silly, right?

Dear side of fandom determined to disregard Cassian in his own show in favor of Luthen, Mon, Dedra, or frickin K-2:

I SEE YOU.

V. little love,
Guin

Dear Sirs,

I don't care about any of this. I don't care about Teva, I don't care about Elia Kane, I don't care about the First Order or whatever it is they're all banging on about. I don't care.

If you'd stick to the Mando storyline itself maybe it would make more sense than it currently does. You had me actually giving a shit about Bo-Katan for a few episodes there, you were giving the Armorer more to do, you were giving Grogu more to do, and now it's devolving into a morass of half-baked tropes because you're too busy trying to cram whatever-it-is down my throat.

Remember when you omitted Boba Fett from a literal third of his own show? Remember how well that went over? You're doing it again.

You're better than this.

Yrs,
Guin

Can we p l e a s e stop talking like poor little rootless Bo-Katan is being preyed on by these unscrupulous extremists and won't someone save her from the trap she's walking into? Bo-Katan is a MIDDLE AGED WOMAN who was a central figure in the movement these people SPLIT FROM and she is not a reliable narrator.

"Your cult fractured our people"? Lady, you were the one who co-led a Sith-backed coup and only had second thoughts when they literally murdered your sister in front of you, like it was always patently obvious they were going to do. You were the gung-ho hardline Mandalorian traditionalist all fired up about Warrior Virtue and the Ways Of Our Ancestors and thinly veiled human supremacy. You were the one who, as lately as last season, went out of her way to denigrate Boba Fett based not on his character, deeds or even family, but on the method of his conception. And Din's people are the divisive fruitloops? Pull the other one.

Now the community she repudiated for being too cringe or whatever is offering her sanctuary and solidarity despite her long history of throwing her allies under the bus, and they're the bad guys?

Yes, they're a highly-insular fringe religious group with weirdly intense modesty taboos. They're a cult, if you like, but they're not frickin' space Scientologists. The Armorer laid it out very clearly in the last episode: if you're willing to abide by our rules, you're welcome here; if you won't or can't, we part ways with no hard feelings. Din didn't bring Bo-Katan home to recruit her by exploiting her insecurities; he brought her because she did him a solid in the Mines and she needed somewhere to go.

And, again, she is a GROWN WOMAN with considerable political experience and acumen, who is more than capable of being sneaky and manipulative and ruthless herself. She is not a naive baby who'll do anything for a pat on the head. If she's becoming more accepting and less disdainful of these people, maybe that's because she's finally growing as a person and not because they're somehow indoctrinating her.
guinevak: Wary Jyn Erso ((sw) Jyn "where r u going w/this" Erso)
- Mon Mothma is not more privileged than Luthen Rael.

- If the definition of "girlboss" is "detains and tortures other women", I'm not sure why we're still using that term as a positive.

- Refugees struggling to provide for their families are not, as a rule, motivated by greed.

- A show that is extremely good at being a dark political thriller in space is not automatically superior to shows that are good at being heartwarming pulp adventures in space.

- Thank you for your time.
